Using AwayBot

Set an out-of-office: /awaybot to 2026-08-01 Back on the 1st, ask @sarah for anything urgent. The dates are optional; without them the entry stays on until you switch it off.
Schedule one ahead: add a start date — /awaybot from 2026-08-10 to 2026-08-20 On holiday.
Set your timezone: add tz=Europe/Amsterdam anywhere in the command. Dates are then interpreted in that timezone instead of UTC.
Check it: /awaybot status — tells you whether your entry is active, scheduled, or has ended.
Switch it off: /awaybot off.

Common questions

AwayBot is not replying. Why? The three most common reasons: the bot is not a member of that channel (invite it — it only sees conversations it is in); the out-of-office is scheduled or has ended rather than active (check with /awaybot status); or it already replied in that channel for that person within the last 30 minutes, which is the anti-spam throttle.
It replied once and then went quiet. That is the throttle: at most one reply per out-of-office user per channel per 30 minutes.
Why does the reply appear in a thread? To keep the channel readable. AwayBot always replies in the thread of the message that mentioned you.
Does AwayBot read our messages? It looks at message text in memory to find mentions, and stores none of it. The Privacy Policy explains exactly what is and is not stored.
Does /awaybot off delete my message? Yes — it deletes your entry completely: the message you wrote, the dates and the timezone. There is nothing left to clean up afterwards, and setting a new out-of-office starts from a blank slate.
How many people can use it? One active out-of-office user per workspace on the free plan; the Pro plan lifts that limit. See the Terms of Service.
How do I upgrade or cancel? Setting an out-of-office when the free limit is reached gives you an upgrade link. Subscriptions are managed in Stripe; email us if you need help finding your subscription.
How do I remove the app entirely? Uninstall AwayBot from your Slack workspace’s app-management settings. That deletes every row we hold about your workspace.

Reporting a problem

If something looks wrong — a reply that should not have been sent, a command returning an error, a duplicate reply — email us with your workspace name and roughly when it happened.
